I collect masks. I’m not sure what it is but ever since I was a kid I have always been intrigued by the idea of transforming ones identity. Perhaps it’s a superhero thing, but mask making is one of the oldest cultural traditions in the world, in fact the earliest example being from the Stone Age. The hunter would wear an animal masks to disguise themselves and stalk prey. They would transform themselves into the very animals they were hunting. Symbolically and psychologically it changes the wearer into something else. Have you ever noticed when you wear a mask you act a little differently? Temporarily you lose yourself and become whatever the mask represents? Just in time for the costume season I have created a workshop to get you into the spirit. In this class we will be using a variety of materials to create masks for Halloween, Steampunk conventions, Dia de los Muertos…and even one for Krampus! The most important aspect of this class is not only for them to look amazing but they also need to be comfortable to wear. Get ready to alter your egos!
